SM Assembly has been in the forefront of providing solutions that would drive them to the forefront of Industry 4.0 and this was highlighted at the recent NEPCON Japan 2019 held in Tokyo, Japan. It highlighted its strengths in complete hardware and software platforms.

ASM Pacific Technology Limited (ASMPT) is among the companies that put up the ADAptive Manufacturing Open Solutions (ADAMOS), a strategic alliance in the Industrial internet of things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0 and aims to bring together the most up-to-date IT technology and industry knowledge. ASM has also made strategic investment in Portuguese software develop Critical Manufacturing S.A. to accelerate ASMPT’s efforts to build a portfolio of industrial Internet solutions.

Hardware, Software Solutions
“By optimizing workflows and integrating them into a fully networked Smart Factory, which is able to adapt to frequently changing products and processes, electronic manufacturers will reach a yet unrivalled level of productivity and flexibility,” said Yuzo Ishizaki, SMT Solutions General Manager, ASM Assembly Technology Co., Ltd. at the recent NEPCON Japan 2019 held in Tokyo Big Sight.

“Today we are not just able to provide powerful hardware and software solutions for the electronic industry but also integrate data and processes on machine, line factory, and cloud level. This puts us into the forefront of Industry 4.0 solutions and maintains our innovative lead,” he added.

Ishizaki noted that with 5G communications standard becoming more imminent, it will further propel the realization of a smart factory as this will allow manufacturers to implement high-bandwidth and zero-latency networking technologies. These technologies will subsequently enable them to track components and products, as well as to plan, control and monitor integrated production workflows.

“With the onset of 5G, the spectrum of mobile applications would increase with enhancements in areas like robotics, increased adoption of virtual production and digital twins, as well as augmented reality and remote solutions for maintenance and support,” said Ishizaki.

Growing Demand in Japan
Aside from ASM’s SMT and backend businesses in the Japanese market, Ishizaki noted a growing demand for advanced packaging solutions in the Japanese market. He said Japanese companies are looking for solutions to leverage this technology in their product development and production.

ASM has been providing complete, highly accurate and highly efficient advanced packaging solutions and are able to support its customers with highly experienced process experts. The company also provides equipment and software for both chip assembly and board-level SMT placement, enabling to deliver complete and integrated solutions for high-quality and high-speed printing and placement solutions.

“Our target is to gain competitive advantages for our customers. Japanese customers are very demanding but we are more than willing to meet these demands and to cooperate closely for specific solutions,” said Ishizaki.
