UKI Corporation has seen brisk sales of its mounters in the last fiscal year. In FY2018 ending December, the company recorded strong sales of new mounter models, particularly mounters without the need for head replacement and three-dimensional (3D) printed circuit board inspection systems, thus driving its mounter business. Moreover, robust capital investments in China and countries in Southeast Asia contributed to the business growth. While making a cautious forecast, the company expects continued increase in revenue for FY2019.

For the term ending Dec. 2018, JUKI posted consolidated sales of ¥112.06 billion, an annual increase of 8.1 percent; operating profit of ¥9.148 billion, an annual increase of 12.2 percent; recurring profit of ¥8.385 billion, an annual increase of 7.05 percent; and current net profit of ¥6.64 billion, an annual increase of 17.7 percent.

In the industrial equipment and systems business, including mounters, the company posted sales of ¥38.182 billion, an increase of 11.45 percent, and recurring profit of ¥4.156 billion, an increase of 47.4 percent for the same period.

For FY2019, JUKI predicts total sales of ¥114 billion, and an increase of ¥3.9 billion in revenue in the industrial equipment and systems business.

Akira Kiyohara, President, says, “In FY2019, uncertainty about the condition of the global economy will increase, posing concerns about deceleration. On the other hand, technological innovations will accelerate and interests in artificial intelligence, robots, and cloud will expand. Our company will strengthen the capacity for value creation of its solution business, construct customer base for the future through market cultivation, and create and strengthen business categories looking toward the future.”

Business Focus

In the industrial equipment and systems business, JUKI will continue to boost its JUKI Smart Solution for the surface mounting line, which it deploys globally. At the same time, the company will also expand equipment and systems that automate pre- and post-processes of the surface mounting, including Intelligent Storage Management System automated warehouses, which the company has been augmenting in the smart solution business; Mutitask Platform (odd-form components mounters); screw fastening robots; and components insertion robots.

JUKI also expands its solutions beyond mounters. The company has proposed automated warehouses and three-dimensional (3D) inspection systems to other industries and has already begun to produce results.

JUKI has been proposing the use of manufacturing equipment to other industries as corporate-wide activities (Mechanical Components & Materials Technology Expo [MTech]).

Industry Partnerships, Linkages

JUKI also promotes open innovation. In collaboration with Hitachi, Ltd., the company has newly developed PCB Production Optimization Solution building upon JUKI Smart Solution.

JUKI has also started linkage with FA-IT integrated solution e-F@ctory integrated production system promoted by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.

The company further strengthens efforts to expand JUKI Industrial Equipment Technology Co., Ltd. in the industrial equipment and systems business segment and the group business into a third pillar following sewing machines and industrial equipment.

For its consigned business, JUKI targets sales of ¥16 billion in FY2021. Under the JUKI Group, JUKI has JUKI Industrial Equipment Technology; JUKI METAL CORPORATION (manufacturing of casting iron); JUKI AIZU CORPORATION (precision casting); SUZUTAMI PRECISION INDUSTRY CO., LTD. (parts manufacturing); JUKI MATSUE CORPORATION (unit design, manufacturing of industrial sewing machines); JUKI HIROSHIMA CORPORATION (press working parts, metallic mold); JUKI CORPORATION OHTAWARA PLANT (machine processing); and JUKI (VIETNAM) CO., LTD. (precision processing). Group companies manufacture their own industrial equipment and sewing machines and at the same time manufacture products consigned from external companies.

Customers for consigned production have expanded to encompass automotive, printer, medical equipment, measurement instruments, power tools, power generation equipment, and robot manufacturers. Recently, cases to undertake production from the design stage have been increasing.
