Nichicon Launches New Series of High-Performance Capacitors

From Nichicon Corporation comes two new series of aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The compact UTH Series of miniature aluminum electrolytic capacitors with long life suit power supplies of servers and switches. Meanwhile, the UCK Series of chip-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors with low voltage and high capacitance is applicable to automotive and telecommunications equipment.

UTH Series Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor

The UTH Series of miniature aluminum electrolytic capacitors feature long life (guaranteed for 5,000 hours at 105°C). The series targets to meet the demand for compactness and long life in the power supply field.

UTH Series of miniature aluminum electrolytic capacitors

Specifically, there is a strong demand for compact passive components, like capacitors, to improve surface power density of server power supplies and switching power supplies. This is in addition to the demand for highly integrated circuits and high-density mounting of electronic components. Further, the thermal design of equipment is also becoming more sophisticated. This results from the miniaturization, high integration, and high-density mounting of equipment. Thus, capacitors are required to have high reliability. To meet these market needs, Nichicon has developed the UTH Series, which is smaller in size than the current UPT Series (guaranteed for 5,000 hours at 105°C).

Mainly, the UTH Series is based on the company’s accumulated technologies. It realizes high capacitance and miniaturization through a newly developed high-capacity electrode foil and sealing rubber. As a result, it is 50% smaller in height and 52.4% smaller in volume than the current UPT Series when comparing products rated to the same voltage and capacitance. Thus, this product will contribute to more compact, lower-profile, space-saving circuit designs.

UCK Series Chip Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor

Additionally, Nichicon has launched the UCK Series of chip-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors with low voltage and high capacitance (guaranteed life of 5,000 hours at 105°C). These products are ideal for use in automotive equipment and telecommunications equipment.

Nowadays, the trend in many industries points toward surface mounting of electronic components. As a result, this has generated demand for chip-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors with equivalent capacitance. They aim to replace radial lead-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors. There is also a need for high-capacitance capacitors for power backup and other applications. Moreover, there is a constant demand for more compact and higher-capacitance aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Thus, Nichicon has launched the UCK Series of chip-type aluminum electrolytic capacitors to meet these market needs.

The UCK Series, based on the company’s accumulated technology, realizes miniaturization and high capacitance using a high-capacitance electrode foil. As a result, the UCK Series achieves a maximum 20.9% increase in capacitance compared to the UCM Series, the current chip-type product rated to 105°C. Also, the series contributes to more compact devices and terminal designs. Further, compared with the current UPW Series of radial leaded capacitors with the same capacitance, the UCK Series is 30% smaller in terms of height, leading to reductions in labor and a lower profile when surface mounting.
