Malaysia Propels Grit in Manufacturing

KUKA’s growing presence in Malaysia along with other manufacturing equipment manufacturers show the industry’s robustness in the country. In fact, the Malaysian government has been scoring significant milestones recently, boosting further its strategic shift in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

Particularly, the recent deals it entered with global chip firms, such as Arm Ltd., and the establishment of an IC design hub, show the country’s chip grit to move from “Made in Malaysia” to “Made by Malaysia”.

Early this year, the Malaysian government has struck a deal with Arm, he chip design company of the Japan-headquartered Softbank. The deal with Arm involves Malaysia investing US$250 million to Arm over a period of 10 years for the access of chip IP designs. The deal will help the country move forward as a backend to frontend chip manufacturer.

Malaysia has been actively boosting its investments portfolio and has recently announced netting about US$1.1 billion in investment potentials from Japan in the ongoing Expo 2025 Osaka.
