Robust Market Forecast

The demand for power devices will likely increase in the automotive and industrial equipment markets that are the focus markets. Moreover, it will also expand in home electric appliances and other consumer equipment.

Isao Matsumoto, President and Chief Executive Officer (Representative) of ROHM

For that reason, ROHM forecasts a global compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of power devices between FY2021 and FY2027 at 6.8 percent. Against the backdrop of this forecast, the company plans to expand its CAGR of power devices from 5.6 percent between FY2010 to FY2020 to 29.8 percent between 2021 to 2027 with SiC power devices for which the company leads the industry as the main products.

In addition, the company will add to its product lineup products that meet market needs for high power, high voltages (600V and higher), and high frequencies of 20 to 200kHz. Thus, it will put in place a supply system that meets demand by actively investing in plants and equipment.

Boost Investments, Capacities

Isao Matsumoto, President, and Chief Executive Officer, said, “I believe we can grow the SiC business steadily. We expect ¥300 billion of pipeline production by 2025. Of this total, I expect design-win accounts for ¥130 billion.”

Furthermore, Matsumoto said he also expects sales to exceed ¥5 trillion through FY2030, with design-win accounting for ¥1 trillion.

Pipeline (new + existing values) of the SiC business (¥Billion)

Matsumoto expressed his eagerness, “To pull through these goals, we will make sufficient investments to increase the production capacity for SiC power devices. We aim to obtain more requests from customers in China, the United States, Japan, and countries in Europe.”

At present, the ratio of China is high in its pipeline value. The company aims to increase the ratios of the United States and countries in Europe in FY2026 and onward.

Finally, it intends to make the balance among three regions of China, Europe, and Americas by FY2027. At the same time, increase the ratio of Japan as well.
