OMRON has announced the OMRON TM S Series collaborative robots (cobots), designed for diverse applications across multiple industries. These cobots introduce advanced hardware and more safety features and certifications. Additionally, they offer next-generation configuration capabilities, making them easier to use than ever before.
Mainly, the TM S Series responds to manufacturers’ needs for enhanced performance and safety in human-collaborative settings. Accordingly, it offers four models, with payload capabilities from 5 to 14kg and reach from 700 to 1300mm. Various mounting types are possible, including use on a mobile robot to create a mobile manipulator (MoMa) solution. Also, each cobot has six rotating joints operating with ±0.03mm repeatability, providing six degrees of freedom with an average speed of between 1.1 and 1.4m/s.
Models are available with and without built-in 1.2M/5M pixel color cameras. Also, 2 GigE 2D cameras are available on an optional basis for applications requiring greater resolution. Joint J6, which is the camera joint at the end of the cobot arm, can move at 450°/s. This is the fastest in the industry and is four times faster than the previous model; thus supporting improved inspection operations.
The new series features a total of 31 specific safety features, 12 of which are in this new generation. Thus, these cobots are safer and ready to integrate with a wide variety of safety devices and switch configurations, without the need for an external safety controller in many applications. Generally, the OMRON TM S Series cobots are inherently safe for operating in workspaces shared with people. However, additional safety sensors may be required based on configured speeds and application risk assessment.
Additionally, the TM S Series cobots are certified to meet ISO 13849-1 PLd Cat 3 and ISO 10218-1 safety standards. Also, the design can carry UL/CSA/KC certifications. The robots also carry an IP54 rating for both the arm and control box (AC version only). They also feature protections that make them suitable for use in an ISO 3 cleanroom, or places with exposures to cutting oil.
Connectivity options include analog/digital signals, HDMI, Ethernet LAN, USB, RS232, Ethernet, and Modbus TCP/RTU master/slave. Additional additional options for PROFINET and EtherNet/IP are available. They operate on 100-240VAC 50-60Hz, with power consumptions varying based on size.
Simplified programming is available with the next-gen Robot Stick control. Specifically, it transforms into a full teach pendant with a touchscreen display. Hand guidance programming and TMFlow flowchart-based graphical programming cater to both novice and advanced users.
Compact and adaptable, the OMRON TM S Series cobots can be effortlessly relocated for various tasks using their built-in cameras and landmark positioning. These cobots are ideal for changing the way factories work in industries. Among them include logistics, consumer packaged goods, life sciences, and more. Also, they suit assembly, palletizing, machine tending, packaging, pick-and-place, and many other tasks.
