TRUMPF to Spur Growth With New High Tech Site

TRUMPF Maschinen Austria has opened an extension with its own Smart Factory at the Pasching in Austria. Accordingly, the high-tech company has invested around €40 million in the expansion of the site over the last two years.

TRUMPF has built two new production halls with an area of 7,000sq.m and 850sq.m of office space. “With this major investment, the TRUMPF Group is expressing its long-term commitment to Austria as a location. Particularly, Pasching is one of our most important locations outside Germany,” said Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, CEO of TRUMPF.

Meanwhile, Governor Thomas Stelzer said TRUMPF Maschinen Austria is one of Upper Austria’s flagship companies. Specifically, the company has special relationships with schools, educational centers, and universities of applied sciences. Furthermore, Stelzer said, “These are a driving force behind the innovative strength of TRUMPF and the companies in Upper Austria. This is a real advantage to the area, and an essential building block for ensuring that Upper Austria remains a region of business, work and innovation in the future.”

Fully automated production in the smart factory

“The heart of the site expansion is the Smart Factory. It comes equipped with our own state-of-the-art machines,” said Thilo Preß, Managing Director of TRUMPF Maschinen Austria. On the one hand, the high-tech company can present innovations in sheet metal processing to its customers there. On the other hand, TRUMPF uses the Smart Factory to manufacture and process sheet metal parts itself.

The high level of vertical integration saves costs. Following the site expansion, a new laser hybrid welding system welds large parts, fully automatically directly at the plant. Moreover, the Pasching plant also supplies machine frames to other TRUMPF locations. An additional milling center processes large parts with high precision in only half the time.

Heat pumps and photovoltaics for more sustainability

As part of the plant expansion, TRUMPF has built an energy center for CO2-neutral energy supply. Specifically, it comes equipped with a wood chip heating system and heat pumps. The high-tech company has expanded its existing photovoltaic system by 406 kilowatt peak (kWp).

For 33 years, Pasching has been the competence center for the bending technology of the globally active TRUMPF Group. Approximately, 800 employees develop and produce bending machines, automated bending cells, and bending tools for sheet metal processing. Sales in the last fiscal year amounted to around 530 million euros.
