Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. has made another big step to realize its goal of achieving carbon neutrality. Specifically, the company announced its Nishimizoguchi Plant in Japan has switched to using green electricity.
Accordingly, the Nishimizoguchi plant in Aichi has started tapping renewable energy sources for its power needs. Namely, these sources are either solar, wind, biomass, and among others. The company said this alone will enable the company to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 1,200 tons in FY2024 compared with the previous year.
In August 2023, Toyoda Gosei declared that it would bring forward to 2030 the timing for achieving carbon neutrality. Specifically, it will aim to lower the CO2 emissions generated in its production activities (Scope 1, 2).
Moreover, the company is accelerating this move through energy savings gained with production technology innovations and daily kaizen. In addition, the switch to electricity from renewable energy.
Toyoda Gosei is increasing its use of renewable energy with the best combination of green power and Non-Fossil Certificate*purchases, installation of on-site solar power facilities, and more.
This newest introduction of renewable energy follows similar switchovers at its World Headquarters. Furthermore, its hydrogen tank manufacturing facility in Inabe Plant) and distribution facility in Miyoshi Distribution Center have also switched to renewable energy use since FY2021. Meanwhile, its research and development centers in Miwa Technical Center and in Kitajima Technical Center have also made the big switch in FY2022 and FY2023, respectively.
The company plans to continue systematically increasing its use of renewable energy.
Toyoda Gosei specializes in rubber and plastic polymer technology. Thus, in moving towards carbon neutrality, the company is steadfast in leading the industry and the Group.
Toyoda Gosei first started full-fledged environmental activities in 1993 when it adopted its 1st Environmental Action Plan. In February 2016, it announced the TG 2050 Environmental Challenge consisting of six aggressive targets, one of which is a clear declaration for a decarbonized society. This marked a turning point, and each department has been making aggressive efforts.
Moreover, they include TG-ESCO activities in which entire plants make regular improvements to reduce energy loss. specifically, by always turning off power sources during non-production times and switching to energy-saving equipment; reductions in waste and the amounts of water used; and introduction of renewable energy. To achieve carbon neutrality, it will be necessary to combine a number of things. Namely, the development of materials that do not emit CO2 and innovative technical developments that will significantly change manufacturing systems.
To advance these efforts in parallel, Toyoda Gosei said it will incorporate various methods. This includes cooperation with other companies, and act with a sense of urgency.
