MinebeaMitsumi Lifts Green Edge in New Energy Deal

MinebeaMitsumi‘s NMB-Minebea Thai Ltd. and Super Energy Corporation have agreed to establish a joint venture agreement in Thailand. Specifically, the new company will aim to generate solar power and support MinebeaMitsumi’s carbon neutrality efforts.

Accordingly, MinebeaMitsumi aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Hence, it continues to work on the installation and operation of solar power generation facilities.

At the same time, it is also utilizing renewable energy at various bases of the MinebeaMitsumi Group.

Know-How in Solar Power Generation

Recently, MInebeaMitsumi decided to operate a solar power generation business at its Thailand plant. Specifically, the purpose is to expand the procurement of renewable energy, reduce electricity costs, and lower further CO2 emissions.

Super Energy is a listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. particularly, its core businesses are renewable energy-related business, IT business, and water supply business. Since their establishment in 1994, they have been involved in over 100 solar power generation projects in Thailand and have extensive know-how in solar power generation.

“Through our joint venture with Super Energy, we will build a system to efficiently supply solar power. At the same time, maximize the use of renewable energy at the MinebeaMitsumi Group’s Thai factories,” said MinebeaMitsumi.

The initial capital of the joint venture company is 1,087 million Thai baht. Particularly, NMB-Minebea Thai will have 60 percent share while Super Energy will take the remaining 40 percent.

Carbon Neutral Operations

MinebeaMitsumi earlier announced plans of operating a solar power generation business at its plant in Thailand. Thus, this will expand renewable energy procurement, reducing electricity costs, and lowering CO2 emissions.

MinebeaMitsumi’s Thai Operations has installed and operated a solar power generation facility with a total capacity of 16.5MW. However, the potential for expansion of renewable energy remains limited in terms of solar power generation on the factory site.

Therefore, MinebeaMitsumi has decided to construct a solar power plant with a total capacity of approximately 150MW in Thailand and operate a solar power generation business.

Aside from the 16.5MW power plant scheduled to start operation in Thailand,  MinebeaMitsumi has started construction of the new plant in Cambodia that will begin by March 2025. Meanwhile, it expects to commence partial operations by March 2027. Aside from Cambodia, the company has other solar powered facilities in other countries. Earlier, the company said its site in Cebu, the Philippines also operates a solar power generation facility with 8MW capacity.
