Mitsubishi Chem to Boost Yield With New High Tech Site

The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (the MCG Group) has decided to expand its production facility for OPL Film™ products, optical polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) film. Specifically, the expansion will happen at Mitsubishi Chemical’s Central Japan-Ogaki (Kanda) Plant in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

The upgraded facility will go into operation in the second half of FY2027.

Largest Single-Line Production

OPL Film™ products’ application includes polarizing plates for use in televisions and other liquid crystal displays. Particularly, with the increase in the size of liquid crystal display screens, demand for OPL Film™ products is also increasing. For that reason, in this market environment, the MCG Group has decided to expand its production facility. The company aims to meet the growing demand and requirements for higher quality.

The new production facility will feature high quality as well as higher productivity compared to conventional facilities. Moreover, it will have the largest single-line production capacity in the MCG Group, at 27 million square meters per year.
Thus, after completion, the total production capacity of the MCG Group will likely reach 154 million square meters per year.
