Thailand to Surge Grit as ASEAN Chip, PCB Hub

Amid changes in the landscape of global trade rules and supply chain realignments, Thailand wants to position itself as a regional hub for advanced electronics. For that reason, the Thai government has recently announced policies that aim to attract semiconductor and printed circuit board (PCB) investments.

Thailand BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi delivers opening speech and shares the government’s vision for Thailand becoming as a regional hub for electronics production.

Electronics Projects Surge

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) recently held Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia (THECA) 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. Specifically, BOI officials, industry leaders, and academics shared plans to transform Thailand into a hub for advanced electronics.

BOI Secretary General Narit Therdsteerasukdi said the sector has attracted more than 500 projects worth 700 billion Thai Baht (US$19.5 billion) between 2022 and mid-2025. Of that, PCBs contributed 180 projects totaling over THB 200 billion, with top global producers choosing Thailand as a base.

“Thailand is ready to be a leading center for advanced electronics,” Narit said.

“We’re not only building manufacturing strength, but also research and development capacity, skilled talent, and resilient supply chains that will drive long-term growth.”

Industry Leaders Join the Call, Too

Executives from chip design firms, packaging companies and electronics manufacturers supported the call of the Thai government through during the BOI. Particularly, they said Thailand could emerge as a center for advanced packaging, specialty semiconductors, and smart devices if supported by policy and investment in skilled labor.

Moreover, United Test and Assembly Center (UTAC) Thai Limited said it was ready to expand production of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), while local design house Silicon Craft Technologies urged the government to invest in wafer fabrication plants to strengthen the industry.

Executives from chip design firms, packaging companies and electronics manufacturers supported the call for making Thailand as a regional production hub.

Meanwhile, the Thai Printed Circuit Board Association (PCBA) said the adjustment would represent an opportunity for Thailand as the PCB industry expanded rapidly and new markets showed strong demand. Therefore, creating room to boost sales and build on the country’s established automotive sector.

With stable infrastructure, clean energy, industrial estates, and state support, Thailand is positioning itself as one of Asia’s standout destinations for advanced electronics investment. Policymakers strongly believe the country can secure a top-tier role in global semiconductor and PCB supply chains, anchoring long-term economic growth.
