Mitsui Chemicals Eyes New R&D Base in Nagoya

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. has established a new research and development base within its Nagoya factory in Japan. Accordingly, the move will aim to strengthen its ability to propose solutions through co-creation with customers in the semiconductor and packaging fields.

For that reason, the company will establish the Creative Integration Lab. The construction of which is ongoing will be completed in May 2024.

At the Mitsui Chemicals Nagoya Plant, the company gathers information and propels activities to propel innovation through co-creation with customers. Particularly, the company centers its endeavors on ICROS tape, a core product manufactured and sold by Mitsui Chemicals Tohcello for the semiconductor and packaging field.

Based on the company’s track record, Mitsui Chemicals positions the soon-to-rise Creative Integration Lab to further promote co-creation with customers. Furthermore, to strengthen its ability to propose solutions. Thus, consolidating research environments and related evaluation equipment in the semiconductor and packaging fields.

Mitsui Chemicals has invested ¥3 billion (US$20.9 million, approx.) in the facility, which will rise inside Mitsui Chemicals Nagoya Factory in Aichi Prefecture.

Aside from seamless collaboration with stakeholders in the semiconductor and packaging fields, the company will also promote problem-solving ability and human resource development in the said facility.

Moreover, the facility will have an ICT test field and a co-creation building. The ICT test field will be equipped with a clean room, draft room, and reliability test room, among others. Here, it will consolidate process evaluation, and reliability evaluation, among others.

Meanwhile, the co-creation field will be positioned as a place for communication between customers and researchers. Moreover, the company will install high-speed communication equipment that will enable a virtual tour of prototype production. At the same time, a digital presentation system that allows the sharing of specialized technical presentations.

The construction started in February 2023 and will be scheduled for completion in May 2024.
