In its latest announcement, KOKUSAI ELECTRIC CORPORATION said it will establish a new research and development (R&D) base in Yokohama City in Japan’s Kanagawa Prefecture. Primarily, the new R&D base will conduct research and development of underlying technology related to next-generation semiconductors. The company targets to start full-scale operation at the R&D base at the end of FY2024, following the opening of an office in late January 2024.
Meanwhile, for the R&D base, the company has received a subsidy from Yokohama City, using the 2023 Yokohama City Subsidy Program for New Business Locations in Next-Generation Priority/Growth Areas.
KOKUSAI ELECTRIC has started operation of the Toyama Technology & Manufacturing Center, which was established in Oct. 2022. In addition, the company aims to further strengthen the research and development system in Japan by setting up a new R&D base in Yokohama City.
Further, KOKUSAI ELECTRIC will promote the creation of new businesses and technologies. Mainly it will strengthen cooperation with semiconductor-related companies, universities, research institutes, and other organizations within the area.
