Brother Completes New Machine Tool Plant in India

Brother Machinery (India), a subsidiary of Brother Industries, Ltd., has completed the construction of a new machine tool plant near Bengaluru City in southern India. Mainly, this is the third machine tool production site after Japan and China. Operations at the new plant are set to start in December 2024.

Under the Group Vision “At your side 2030” toward FY2030, Brother has positioned the industrial area as one of its focus areas. In relation, it aims for significant growth in the industrial equipment business handling machine tools. Specifically, the new factory will contribute to realizing the Vision by serving as a facility for strengthening manufacturing in the machine tool field.

Currently, India has the largest population, and population growth and economic growth are expected to continue in the future. Moreover, demand for machine tools is expected to increase, especially for automobiles and motorcycles.

In March 2021, the company opened the Brother Technology Center Bengaluru. In May 2023, it opened the Brother Technology Center Gurugram as a service and support facility with machine tool showrooms. Furthermore, BROTHER MACHINERY INDIA was established in Bengaluru in March 2022. It carries out after-sales service, technical support, and marketing for machine tools. Moreover, manufacturing capability has been added to BROTHER MACHINERY INDIA. This time, the new factory has been built at the Japan Industrial Township (JIT) in the Tumakuru district, about 1.5 hours by car from downtown Bengaluru.

This time, the completed factory is set to begin operations in December 2024. It would start with the manufacturing of standard models S500Bd1 and S700Bd1. Thereafter, it aims to develop a wide range of markets, including motorcycles, automobiles, and medical.

Currently, machine tools are manufactured at the Kariya Factory in Japan and BROTHER MACHINERY XIAN CO., LTD. in China. However, by manufacturing machine tools at the new factory, the company will build a system that can deliver to Indian customers faster.

In addition, as an initiative to reduce CO₂ emissions, solar panels are installed on the roof of the plant. By using renewable energy to cover part of the electricity required to operate the plant, the company plans to reduce CO₂ emissions by about 600 tons per year.

The company will continue to strengthen its machine tool manufacturing base toward significant growth in the industrial area and swiftly deliver value to its customers.
