AIoT, Generative AI at the Edge

At the core of NexAIoT’s industrial solutions is a three-layer architecture. First, the Device Layer, which connects diverse equipment and machines. Next, the Gateway & Communication Layer to consolidate data from heterogeneous sources. Finally, the Enterprise Application Layer, which is tasked in integrating OT and IT data for actionable insights.

Generative AI plays a role across these layers. A recent success story involved embedding AI services directly into equipment, enabling offline operation. Unlike cloud-based AI tools such as ChatGPT, this edge AI approach addresses security concerns, as many factory owners prefer not to connect equipment to the internet due to rising cyberattack risks.

By deploying Small Language Models, SLM at the edge, NexAIoT simplifies operations, enhances troubleshooting, and enables natural interaction with machines.

Within its Enterprise War Room, NexAIoT unifies OT and IT data, ensuring complex information becomes searchable and structured. For example, production traceability reports—covering order details, production time, machine parameters, and more—can now be automatically generated overnight. Plant managers can simply query AI to retrieve the previous day’s data, turning what was once a manual task into a fully automated workflow.

Data Governance for Sustainable AI

Another critical focus is data governance. NexAIoT emphasizes that while customer demands evolve—from productivity improvement to ESG compliance and now AI integration—the underlying foundation is consistent: data logic and reuse. With NexAIoT’s platform, up to 80 percent of existing production data can be repurposed for new projects, avoiding redundant system development and reducing maintenance costs.

For instance, one chemical materials customer leveraged AI to analyze carbon footprint data. AI pinpointed that excessive energy consumption originated from a single production step linked to a specific machine’s extended runtime. Instead of outsourcing problem-solving, the company could identify the root cause internally by using its own production data, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs.

This approach is increasingly important amid global trade pressures and rising tariffs, which push manufacturers to optimize operations, cut costs, and overcome the challenges of OT/IT talent shortages—especially when setting up overseas facilities.

Japanese Market
The implementation of factory IoT requires a comprehensive approach, in which collaboration with system integrators plays a particularly critical role. Especially in developing the Japanese market, the presence of reliable local service providers is indispensable. We have observed that recent smart factory initiatives are increasingly being driven by IT departments. Looking ahead, we aim to further strengthen collaboration with IT service providers to create greater value in the market.
