Since its launch in 2020, the concept of the CoLab by SCHUNK has been conceived at 10 locations worldwide. The opening of the new robot application center in Shinagawa, Tokyo in Japan last July extends the availability of the service to two locations in Asia, in addition to Shanghai in China.
The new CoLab covers an area of over 160 square meters. Specifically, it specializes in electronics, automotive, life science industries and their special requirements. Yasuhiro Hoshino, General Manager of Intec Japan, said, “The CoLab deepens cooperation with our customers and partners. We do not only offer application and validation tests, but also develop new applications together with our customers. In this way, we create real added value and differentiate ourselves from our competitors. Even before the actual opening, we received many inquiries from interested customers.”
Bundled Automation Knowledge
Renowned SCHUNK partners, such as FANUC, YASKAWA, Mitsubishi Electric, and DMG Mori attended the opening ceremony. They also contribute their expertise to the center. The guests took the opportunity to get exclusive insights from the new CoLab. There, they were able to experience innovative technologies such as the energy-free ADHESO grippers or intelligent vision-based gripping with the 2D grasping kit live. As in all CoLabs, customers can test potential applications for their automation projects free of any investment risk. Also, they get the support of a team of application engineers. Moreover, they have a wide range of gripping and automation components and robot types at their disposal to determine the optimum combination for their processes.
