NexCOBOT Brings Latest on Robot Safety to iREX Japan

Manufacturing is turning to automation and human-robot collaboration to offset labor shortages and an aging population. In 2024, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) will release the updated safety standard ISO 10218. Specifically, it imposes clearer and stricter regulations for industrial robot safety features. Adhering to the new ISO 10218 while achieving SIL2 PLd / Cat.3 certification involves substantial time and cost, with a lengthy certification process lasting up to seven to eight years.

NexCOBOT, a subsidiary of NEXCOM International Corporation, is a leading provider of robot control products in Taiwan. In August 2023, NexCOBOT and its partners, Intel and Synapticon, jointly launched the first x86 collaborative safety robot solution. Specifically, the modular solution can significantly cut development time and costs, offering a streamlined path to compliance.

The modular safety solution received wide attention and cooperative requests by global robot manufacturers. Continuing this week, from November 29th to December 2nd, NEXCOM is exhibiting at the International Robot Exhibition (iREX) in Tokyo, Japan.

NexCOBOT partners with Intel and German supply chain players on robot functional safety solutions.

At iREX, NEXCOM showcases its full line of robot control products, including the x86 collaborative safety robot solution. Mainly, the solution combines NexCOBOT’s SCB100 robot safety platform, Intel’s Safety Island security features, Synapticon’s intelligent servo drives and safety motion modules, and Fraunhofer IWU’s Dynasafe dynamic 3D vision-assisted safety zone monitoring system.

“We are convinced that human-robot collaboration is the future of manufacturing,” asserted Jenny Shern, NexCOBOT’s General Manager. “We aim to provide robot manufacturers with high-performance, adaptable, and user-friendly robot control solutions. With the backing of Intel and our German partners, we are thrilled to enter the Japanese market. We will continue to develop cutting-edge robot control solutions to foster a safer and more intelligent production environment for humans.”

Also, in addition to the x86 collaborative safety robot solution, NexCOBOT showcases its solutions for intelligent autonomous mobile robots, green manufacturing, and other applications at iREX. The company commits to providing customers with the solutions to meet their diverse needs in today’s ever-changing manufacturing landscape.
