ABB to Surge Grit in India With New US$75M R&D Funding

Swiss industrial automation and robotics company ABB announced Monday (March 9) that it will expand further its manufacturing and R&D might in India, pouring US$75 million more this year.

Accordingly, this new investment, combined with its US$35 million spent in 2025, would scale up its local-for-local strategy in India. Incidentally, this latest investment would mean about 85 percent of ABB’s products sold in India are manufactured locally.

Decade of Strong Growth

The latest round of investment follows the company’s strong annual growth for the past ten years as well as investments, which have totaled to more than US$230 million during the period. ABB marks its 76th year of operations in the country this year.

Morten Wierod, ABB’s Chief Executive Officer said the investment in India is an important part of its strategy, supporting growth across its electrification, motion, and automation businesses.

“We are seeing strong demand driven by the country’s energy transition, grid modernization, data center development, and the rapid expansion of the metro and high-speed rail segments. Our expanded facilities will ensure we meet this demand while enhancing our capabilities to serve other markets in the region,” said Wierod.
