BMW Group Taps Realtime Robotics as Latest Supplier

BMW Group names Realtime Robotics, the leader in collision-free autonomous motion planning for industrial robots, as an official supplier.

Following this designation, the BMW Group now utilizes Realtime Robotics RapidPlan software. Specifically, this innovative robot motion planning and control software helps improve the speed and efficiency of industrial robot programming, deployment, and control. Also, RapidPlan software helps teams to easily visualize, prioritize and simulate robot path plans. Thus, it speeds up the implementation of industrial automation in a variety of ways.

the BMW Group now utilizes RapiPlan to improve the speed and efficiency of industrial robot programming, deployment, and control.

Additionally, RapidPlan helps to improve the process around the 3D computer tomography scanning of automobiles. This assures the quality of assorted joinings. Meanwhile, the cell was designed to use robots to x-ray vehicles and identify any issues. However, it was a time-consuming process to complete for even a single automobile. The used robots need to be programmed with the exact geographies of the vehicles they would be working around and scanning. More so, each vehicle model was different. This limits robot programming reuse. Thus, this particular issue makes the process more difficult.

Moreover, Realtime Robotics’ technology improves how the robots in this operation are programmed. It autonomously generates and choreographs all robot movements and makes them collision-free. Consequently, the team immediately understand which scan points were easily reachable and those needing direct attention.

With RapidPlan in place, customers improve the efficiency of their scanning operation. They can automate the robot movements and optimize the scan points. This enables technicians to concentrate their efforts on setting up and validating the remaining tough-to-reach areas, instead of wasting time reviewing and validating them all.

“Manual motion planning in multi-robot systems is prohibitively expensive for all but the largest lot sizes and longest-lived products,” said Peter Howard, CEO at Realtime Robotics. “Making it easy for manufacturers to create collision-free path plans by simply ‘pointing and clicking’ can save organizations weeks to months of programming time.”
