MDIS Releases New Smart Factory Solution

Mitsubishi Electric Information Systems Corp. (MDIS) released kizkia-Meter, a smart factory solution that increases efficiency of patrol inspection in factories.

Specifically, the kizkia-Meter comprises the kizkia video analysis solution developed by MDIS. It is based on Mitsubishi Electric Corporation’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and edge PC and other devices installed in a factory. MDIS deploys the kizkia-Meter as a solution that promotes the construction of smart factories.

Inspection of equipment in the entire factory

In factories, manufacturers are faced with challenges, such as the improvement of workers’ productivity, attainment of uniform work quality through fewer reading mistakes, and improvement of work environment to enable the safe monitoring of meters installed in high and narrow places.

On manufacturing floors, workers read meters daily to check if production equipment is operating efficiently and no abnormalities are present.

Specifically, the kizkia-Meter automatically reads values of various meters whether analog or digital and integrally controls the meters. Thus, it allows operators to grasp the operation conditions of the factory without the need for patrol by personnel.

The kizkia-Meter 1) Pursues stable operation and security as it achieves meter reading without relying on manpower; 2) Adopts an industrial edge PC with excellent environment resistance, thus ensuring stable operation; 3) Features on-premise system configuration that ensures safe management of data; 4) Stores read images of meters, thus enables operators to visually check readings afterward and prevents overlooking.

According to MDIS, it is possible to install kizkia-Meter on a small scale, and expand the installation area in stages. Also, it is also possible to link it to other systems. Adding an integrated server enables expanding the number of meters to several hundred units in stages.

The company is currently applying for a patent on the meter reading function.
