Mitsubishi Electric Eyes New Facilities in Japan

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has announced plans to invest some ¥22 billion to construct a total of eight new production buildings. Particularly, the planned facilities will rise at its Kamakura Works in Kamakura City; Koriyama Factory in Koriyama City; and Electronics and Communication Systems Center in Amagasaki City.

Moreover, the new manufacturing investment plan reflects the company’s support to the Japanese government’s Defense Buildup Plan. The company expects to conclude the construction in April 2025.

Enhanced Automation, Logistics

Mitsubishi Electric expects to improve the quality and efficiency of its production operations by deploying autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for enhanced automation and logistics efficiency.

In addition, the company will also adopt an Engineering Chain Management (ECM) platform to ensure strong collaboration between the production facilities. Particularly, the platform incorporates 3D data and bill of materials (BOM) information and manufacturing initiatives that use IoT technologies.

Furthermore, extensive measures to minimize CO2 emissions will realize next-generation factories that contribute to global decarbonization.

The new facility in Kamakura City in Kanagawa prefecture will have 6,040sq.m lot area with 30,400sq.m total floor area. Meanwhile, the Koriyama factory will rise in 9,300sq.m lot area with total floor area of 21,900sq.m. On the other hand, the Amagasaki facility will have total floor area of 25,200sq.m.
