LG Innotek to Accelerate Physical AI with New Alliance

LG Innotek is pivoting to lead the emerging Physical AI era through a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Applied Intuition, a global leader in vehicle software and simulation. The partnership aims to revolutionize the development of autonomous driving systems by integrating high-performance sensing hardware with advanced AI simulation environments.

Bridging Hardware, Software for Physical AI

Physical AI, which interacts with the real world through sensors and actuators, is the next frontier for the automotive and electronics industries. By combining LG Innotek’s sophisticated camera modules, LiDAR, and radar with Applied Intuition’s software-driven development platform, the two companies are providing a vertically integrated solution for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

“Through this collaboration, we will provide customers with exceptional solutions that set a new standard in autonomous driving,” said CEO Moon Hyuk-soo. He emphasized that the move is designed to propel LG Innotek to “global top-tier status” in mobility and robotics sensing.

Advanced Validation through Digital Twins

A core component of the partnership is the integration of LG Innotek’s sensing hardware into Applied Intuition’s simulation platform. This allows for the creation of “digital twins”—virtual replicas of physical sensors—enabling developers to:

  1. Generate High-Fidelity Data: Simulate complex driving environments that mirror real-world conditions.
  • Accelerate Testing: Evaluate sensor performance across thousands of edge cases without the cost of physical prototypes.
  • Optimize Perception: Refine the “eyes” of the vehicle within the “brain” of the software stack.

Global Expansion: From Mobility to Robotics

The collaboration extends beyond South Korea, with LG Innotek planning to deploy its sensing solutions across Applied Intuition’s global test fleets in the United States, Japan, as well as countries in Europe. This data-sharing initiative will allow LG Innotek to refine its hardware for diverse climates and traffic patterns.

While the immediate focus remains the automotive sector and Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), the roadmap includes expansion into drones and industrial robotics. This transition marks LG Innotek’s evolution from a traditional component supplier to a comprehensive solutions provider.
