Mitutoyo to Boost Chip Metrology with New Dresden Hub

Precision measurement specialist Mitutoyo has strengthened its position in the semiconductor sector with the launch of a dedicated Semiconductor Competence Center in Dresden, Germany, a move aimed at bringing advanced metrology expertise closer to Europe’s rapidly expanding chip manufacturing ecosystem.

Located in the heart of Silicon Saxony, one of Europe’s most prominent microelectronics clusters, the new facility is designed to help semiconductor manufacturers, suppliers, and technology partners address increasingly demanding production requirements. The investment reflects growing industry demand for high-precision inspection and measurement capabilities as semiconductor devices become more complex and manufacturing tolerances continue to tighten.

Advanced Metrology Supports Next-Generation Chip Production

The competence center combines advanced measurement technologies with specialized application expertise to support semiconductor production environments where dimensional accuracy, surface characteristics, and geometric precision are critical. Its capabilities include nanometre-level measurement and inspection technologies intended to support highly sophisticated manufacturing processes.

Mitutoyo opens a semiconductor competence center in Dresden to advance chip metrology, inspection, training, and industry collaboration.

Beyond technology demonstrations, the center offers manufacturers a practical environment to evaluate measurement solutions for emerging production challenges. The facility will also serve as a hub for technical training, knowledge sharing, and collaboration between industry professionals and metrology specialists.

“Semiconductor manufacturing is one of the world’s most technologically demanding industries, and metrology plays a fundamental role in enabling its continued development,” said Ray Penny, President of Mitutoyo Europe.

Penny added: “With our new Semiconductor Competence Center in Dresden, we are investing not only in advanced measurement technology, but also in the knowledge and customer support needed to help our partners meet the challenges of next-generation chip manufacturing.”

Dresden Location Strengthens Industry Collaboration

Mitutoyo’s decision to establish the center in Dresden aligns with the region’s status as a major European semiconductor and microelectronics hub. The area hosts a diverse network of manufacturers, equipment providers, and research organizations, creating opportunities for deeper collaboration across the semiconductor value chain.

As Europe continues to expand semiconductor manufacturing capacity, demand for reliable inspection and precision measurement solutions is expected to increase. By positioning resources closer to customers and partners, Mitutoyo aims to strengthen technical support while contributing to the advancement of semiconductor manufacturing in Europe and global markets.

The company will showcase the new facility during an Open House event scheduled for October 15, 2026, where customers and industry representatives will have the opportunity to explore the center and review the latest semiconductor metrology solutions.
