Singapore has unveiled SG Semiconductor, a national identity designed to strengthen the country’s position in the global semiconductor ecosystem and provide international companies, researchers and talent with a clearer gateway into its semiconductor capabilities.
The initiative was announced by Minister for Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Dr Tan See Leng at Innovate Together 2026, an industry forum organized by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (ASTAR). Developed jointly by ASTAR and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the new branding effort is intended to elevate the global visibility of Singapore’s semiconductor strengths while simplifying engagement with the country’s innovation and manufacturing ecosystem.
The launch comes as semiconductors become increasingly strategic to artificial intelligence, advanced computing, data communications, electrification and intelligent sensing applications. Against that backdrop, Singapore is accelerating efforts to translate research breakthroughs into commercial opportunities while reinforcing its role within global supply chains.

Building on Decades of Semiconductor Leadership
Singapore’s semiconductor industry spans chip design, wafer fabrication, assembly and testing, equipment manufacturing, materials development and research. The country currently accounts for approximately one-tenth of global chip output and one-fifth of worldwide semiconductor manufacturing equipment production.
To reinforce this foundation, Singapore is backing the sector with an S$800 million investment between 2026 and 2030 under the RIE Flagship in Semiconductors program.
SG Semiconductor will focus on seven strategic technology domains: advanced packaging, silicon photonics, power electronics, radio-frequency gallium nitride, piezoMEMS, flat optics and integrated circuit design.
“Singapore’s strength in semiconductor innovation has been built through decades of sustained investment and close partnership across public research, universities and industry. SG Semiconductor brings this collective endeavour under a national identity,” said Beh Kian Teik, Chief Executive of A*STAR.
New Partnerships Target Commercialization and Scale
A major theme of the announcement was the expansion of industry collaborations aimed at accelerating commercialization.
Among the key initiatives, Applied Materials and A*STAR will enter the fourth phase of their advanced packaging collaboration, expanding infrastructure, equipment and talent resources focused on AI and high-performance computing applications.
Meanwhile, GlobalFoundries will deepen its silicon photonics collaboration with A*STAR to advance next-generation technologies on 300 mm wafers, supporting higher-volume manufacturing for high-performance computing and data communications.
A*STAR also announced new collaborations with KLA, STATS ChipPAC, and Tacta Systems, as well as a research partnership involving the National Centre for Advanced Integrated Photonics (NCAIP) and Battery Age Minerals.
Industry leaders view the initiative as a mechanism for attracting additional investment and innovation activity.
“As semiconductor technologies become more complex, companies are increasingly seeking trusted locations where innovation, manufacturing and talent come together,” said Jermaine Loy, Managing Director of EDB. “SG Semiconductor provides a gateway to Singapore’s ecosystem.”
With a stronger national identity, expanded R&D investment and a growing network of industry partnerships, Singapore is positioning itself not only as a manufacturing base but also as a strategic innovation hub for next-generation semiconductor technologies.
