TDK Augments SmartIndustrial™ Family with Thermal Stable IMU

TDK Corporation announces IIM-20670 inertial measurement unit (IMU) as a new member of the InvenSense SmartIndustrial™ sensor platform family. Specifically, the new IIM-20670 integrates a robust monolithic 6-axis IMU, 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope. Additionally, it features proven shock robustness and capability to simultaneously measure all six axes with a current consumption below 10mA under all operating conditions. With its support for extended temperature range of -40 to 105֯C, this new 6-axis IMU targets industrial applications that require extreme stability over temperature and great vibration immunity.

InvenSense SmartIndustrial™ sensor platform family

The IIM-20670 is calibrated over multiple temperature points and available in a compact QFN 4.5×4.5×1.1mm3 form. It has wettable flanks that simplify inspection at the end of the assembly line. Also, it features programmable digital filters and a 10MHz SPI bus where data integrity can be assessed by a CRC-based error-detecting code algorithm. Moreover, IIM-20670 contains an accelerometer thermal stability of 45µg/C and an accelerometer bias repeatability of 1mg. Further, it features a programmable output of 64G alongside a tilt algorithm that outputs pitch and roll data over the full temperature range.

These specifications allow IIM-20670 to provide one of the most stable 6-axis tilt outputs in the industry. Also, they make the IMU ideal for applications that need robust, fast, and accurate tilt or stabilization performance, such as 5G platform, industrial tilt modules, and industrial/agricultural drones.

Moreover, this new thermal stable IMU for industrial applications delivers precise measurements enabled by a highly stable IMU. Also, it offers support for extended temperature range (-40° to 105°C) and delivers 64g accelerometer output. It also highlights best-in-class accelerometer bias offset & repeatability, and offers strong vibration rectification performance. Further, it features a comprehensive development and evaluation platform along with necessary software to enable quick-to-market development of customer systems.

“With the introduction of this new thermally stable product, calibrated over temperature, TDK is helping the industrial market segments in need of best-in-class stability output,” said Camilo Delgado, Director of Industrial Marketing at InvenSense, a TDK group company. “The new IIM-20670 continues the SmartIndustrial platform to enable our customers and partners ground-breaking family of products that improve end-user experience with a broad choice of performance and costs.”

TDK is demonstrating the IIM-20670 six-axis IMU at the Sensors Converge 2023, booth #992 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, June 20-23, 2023. TDK presents a full range of sensor system solutions targeted for applications across automotive, consumer, health, industrial, machine learning, robotics, and more across multiple TDK product brands: InvenSense, Micronas, Qeexo, and Trusted Positioning.
