DENSO Robotics released the ESD Series collaborative robots for the electronic components industry.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) compromises the quality of electronic components if not properly handled. For example, during printed circuit board (PCB) assembly, visual inspection, and product testing and packaging, uncontrolled electrostatic discharges endanger product integrity.
DENSO expanded the possible protection classes to include ESD, thus offering the ideal solution for the electronics industry. Specifically, the ESD Series includes the HS-A1 Series as well as the VS Series. The models’ reach cover range from 350mm up to 905mm with payloads of up to 7kg.
The ESD Academy subjected the HS-A1 Series and the VS Series to an approval test. Specifically, the tests aim to achieve ESD conformity as required in many parts of the electronics industry. Moreover, this ensures that all necessary limits according to IEC 61340-5-1:2016 / ANSI/ESD S20.20:2021 are met. Accordingly, it ensures that product integrity is not compromised.
The ESD Academy, an independent testing institute, determined and certified ESD conformity. Accordingly, the following tests were conducted: 1) testing of the leakage resistances up to the robot flange (dynamic and static); 2) testing of the electrostatic charge on all surfaces of the robot (dynamic and static), and 3) testing of dynamic charging and discharging on the robot.
