Yaskawa Releases New Lineup for AC Drive Series

Yaskawa Electric Corporation has started sales of new models of the 400V-class GA700 Series next-generation AC drives, which were initially released in 2015. Initially, the 0.4 to 355kW lineup was available for the 400V class capacity. This time, Yaskawa released the models with 0.4 to 630kW capacity.

The GA700 Series of AC drives for general industrial purposes were brought to market under the concepts of versatility, easy to use, and reliability. Since their launch in Nov. 2015, they have not only demonstrated the functions and performance that customers want, but also pursued higher efficiency.  Specifically, they achieved this through new motor control, lower costs for systems incorporating peripherals, and higher productivity in using IoT.  Over time, many customers have received well the products.

This time, the expanded lineup of 400V class covers 0.4 to 630kW. With the addition of the high-capacity band, the GA700 Series is now suitable for larger general industrial machinery and equipment for a wider range of applications. Additionally, it carries a much smaller and lighter form factor than the previous model. As a result, it contributes to the space-saving of customers’ equipment.

Key Features

Expanded selection of AC drive capacity

The previous model, A1000, had two types – 500kW and 630kW. Meanwhile, the GA700 is available in four types – 450kW, 500kW, 560kW and 630kW, making it possible to optimize the AC drive capacity better than the motor capacity. For example, with a motor capacity of 560kW, the AC drive capacity of previous models is 630kW. However, the GA700 can select 560kW, which contributes to cost reduction.

Smaller size and lighter weight

Compared with A1000, major changes in the main circuit configuration have made GA700 significantly smaller and lighter. For example, with the 630kW model, the total mounting size is lower by 40% and the mass is down by 35%. These features make it possible to use factory space effectively.

Improved maximum output voltage

The previous model in this capacity band, A1000, had a maximum output voltage of 95% of the input voltage. Meanwhile, GA700 was reconfigured to accommodate the maximum output voltage equivalent to the input voltage. This makes it possible to combine motors with a higher rated voltage compared to the previous models, thereby reducing the motor current. (It depends on the motor performance.)

More details on the basic functions and performance are available here.

The newly added capacity band is ideal for a wide range of large industrial machinery, including large cranes, compressors, press machines, extruders, among others.
