Vietnam-based multinational automotive company VinFast Auto Ltd. is aggressively making its presence felt in the Southeast Asian region.
Specifically, the company has recently broken the ground for a new electric vehicle assembly plant in Indonesia. Moreover, it has opened three dealerships in the Philippines, solidifying its retail presence in the region.
Aside from its focus on key markets in North America and Europe, VinFast announced last year its plans to expand its presence in the Southeast Asian market. Specifically, the company also intends to introduce its EV models – VF 5, VF 6, VF 7, and VF e34 – tailored to meet market’s specific features and demands.
“Expanding to the Southeast Asia region is part of VinFast’s global development strategy. We have set a target to provide ASEAN countries with smart and safe mobility solutions, delivering excellent experiences and ultimately promoting a greener future for all,” said Madam Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairman of Vingroup and Chairman of VinFast.
VinFast offers a comprehensive lineup with models ranging from the A to E-segment, featuring VF e34, VF 5, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9. In addition, VinFast provides a range of eight e-scooter models designed to target from mass to premium segments. Furthermore, VinFast’s ecosystem extends to e-buses, advanced battery and charging solutions, all within the Vingroup ecosystem.
VinFast Auto has officially broken ground on its new EV assembly plant in Subang, West Java, Indonesia. Accordingly, the new plant underscores VinFast’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region. At the same time, supporting Indonesia’s burgeoning EV industry.
The new VinFast assembly plant, located in the emerging industrial hub of Subang, represents an initial investment of around US$200 million. Furthermore, the facility will have an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. It will also house several key production areas such as Body Shop, General Assembly Shop, Paint Shop and testing area, etc.
Scheduled to commence operations in Q4 2025, the plant will produce right-hand drive versions of VinFast’s e-SUV models, including VF 3, VF 5, VF 6 and VF 7 for the Indonesian market.
Temmy Wiradjaja, CEO of VinFast Indonesia, said, “The groundbreaking event highlights the company’s strategic expansion and competitive drive in the region. We believe this project will demonstrate VinFast’s long-term commitment to Indonesia.”
In parallel with bolstering its global production capabilities, VinFast has swiftly established a robust business presence in Indonesia. Specifically, the company has launched two right-hand drive electric SUV models, the VF 5 and VF e34, opened dealership stores, and implemented flexible sales policies.
Furthermore, the company announced at the recent Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 the first VF e34 C-SUVs delivered in Indonesia. Thus, marking a promising new chapter in the country’s green transportation journey.
The delivery of the VF e34 C-SUVs happened just over five months after the brand’s debut in the country.
Meanwhile, VinFast has officially opened its first three dealerships in the Philippines. Thus, reaffirming its commitment to providing Filipino consumers with modern and smart electric vehicles.
The three dealerships opened on July 16 were VinFast Aseana in Paranaque; VinFast EDSA in Mandaluyong City; and VinFast Alabang in Muntinlupa City. Located in prime locations in the capital region of Manila, these dealerships will showcase the VF 5, VF 7, and VF 9 electric SUV models.
Specifically, the VF 5 electric SUV is now officially available for sale.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, CEO of VinFast Philippines, shared, “The (three new dealerships) mark(s) a significant milestone in our journey to conquer the potential electric vehicle market here. The attention and support for VinFast in the past time has affirmed our brand appeal and potential in the Philippine market.”
On the other hand, Mr. Allan Ong, General Director of K1 Prestige Bay Motors Inc., owner of VinFast Aseana dealership, shared the by the rapid global expansion of the brand and the immense potential it holds in the Philippine market. “With our extensive experience in the automotive industry and established network of stores, we’re confident in becoming a reliable partner, working alongside VinFast to explore and thrive in this exciting market,” said Ong.
VinFast plans to further expand its dealer network to major centers and cities in the Philippines throughout 2024. This network development aims to increase brand awareness, quickly exploit market potential, and meet the growing demand for electric mobility in the country.
