Intel Strengthens Europe Supply Chain with €5B

Intel has announced a €5 billion (US$5.7 billion) capital investment at its Leixlip campus in Ireland, advancing the next stage of the site’s manufacturing expansion as global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) continues to rise.

The investment will support increased production of Intel Xeon 6 processors and future-generation Intel Xeon products built on Intel’s Intel 3 process technology. The company said the project will expand manufacturing output, advance research and development activities, and make greater use of existing cleanroom capacity.

The move is aimed at helping meet industry demand for advanced silicon used in AI infrastructure while reinforcing Europe’s semiconductor supply chain.

Facility Upgrades and Infrastructure Enhancements

The expansion includes upgrades to existing fabrication facilities and the installation of advanced manufacturing equipment. Intel is also enhancing key infrastructure across the Leixlip campus, including extending its automated track system to connect multiple production modules into a unified, high-speed manufacturing environment.

Work on the €5 billion program began earlier this year and is expected to support jobs for specialized construction and equipment installation workers, alongside long-term high-tech employment opportunities.

Naga Chandrasekaran, Executive Vice President, Chief Technology and Operations Officer and General Manager of Intel Foundry, said: “This €5 billion investment represents a definitive commitment to maximize capacity at our Leixlip campus and increase what we can deliver to Intel Foundry customers.”

Supporting Ireland and Europe’s Semiconductor Ambitions

Intel said the investment will contribute to the growth of Ireland’s semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen the country’s position as a major European manufacturing hub. The project also aligns with broader European efforts to bolster domestic semiconductor production and supply-chain resilience.

Intel has invested more than €30 billion in Ireland since establishing operations there in 1989. The Leixlip facility, one of Intel’s most advanced manufacturing sites globally, currently employs approximately 4,900 people.

Welcoming the announcement, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin said: “Intel’s latest multi-billion-euro investment in Leixlip is a powerful vote of confidence in Ireland, our skills base and our position at the heart of Europe’s most advanced manufacturing ecosystem.”

The investment further reinforces Ireland’s role in advanced chip manufacturing as demand for AI-driven computing technologies continues to climb worldwide.
