OMRON Corporation has announced that the OMRON Shanghai Factory has been certified under the Chinese government’s 2022 National Green Factory scheme. Specifically, the program recognizes model factories striving for both economic growth and reduction of environmental load.
Omron Shanghai is part of OMRON’s Industrial Automation Business Company.
Mainly, the National Green Factory accreditation scheme was launched by the Chinese government in 2017. Specifically, it aims to promote environment-friendly manufacturing models. A core facility in OMRON’s Industrial Automation business, OMS received accreditation for the first time this year. This follows a recommendation by the Shanghai city government recognizing the factory’s efforts to achieve a balance between productivity and energy saving. Among these include the adoption of a system that renders energy use visible. Also, OMS is accelerating its initiatives to reduce environmental load. Particularly, it seeks to realize sustainable manufacturing by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and properly managing and curbing the use of chemical agents.
Xu Jian, Director and General Manager of OMRON China Management Center, said, “The National Green Factory scheme is an important means for promoting development of the manufacturing industry in China. Our certification recognizes us as a leader in the shift to low-carbon manufacturing and acceleration of the smart manufacturing revolution in China. As a specialist in the digital transformation of automation, OMRON has assisted in resolving a wide variety of issues confronting factories. Moving forward, we’ll continue to apply our expertise in automation. We will propose innovative technologies and solutions for our partners. This aims to raise the sustainability and efficiency of manufacturing and to unlock people’s potential.”
Under the “Shaping the Future 2030” Long-term Vision launched in 2022, OMRON is pursuing three key social issues. Specifically, they include achieving carbon neutrality, implementing a digital society, and extending healthy life expectancy.
As it works toward “achieving carbon neutrality,” OMRON is taking company-wide approach to decarbonization and reduction of environmental load. In November 2022, it became the first Japanese company to join the international initiative on energy efficiency known as EP100. Specifically, it commits to raising energy productivity across the entire value chain including customers and partners. Globally, it strives to achieve carbon neutrality.
For its part, Shanghai OMRON Control Components Co., Ltd. is producing products with clean energy by installing solar panels. Meanwhile, OMRON Dalian Co., Ltd., built on August 1, 2023, is realizing energy-saving management in the production processes and using clean energy by installing solar panels. Thus, it accelerates decarbonization in each factory.
Generally, OMRON will continue working toward decarbonization and environmental load reduction in its own facilities and across the value chain. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to global efforts to build a sustainable society.
