Yamaha Motor Brings More Focus on Robotics in Asia

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has been actively promoting its robotics business, which it considered as a strategic business area. Specifically, the company accelerates the market introduction of new robotics products. Additionally, it established local subsidiaries both in Japan and overseas.

At JISSO PROTEC 2023 held in June in Tokyo, Japan, Yamaha Motor premiered the YRP10 new premium printer, which supports dual production. Drawing on its strength to offer a wide range of mounting equipment ranging from surface mounters, printers, dispensers to inspection equipment, the company promoted 1 STOP SMART SOLUTION.

Dual-lane line adopting the YR platform

Paves Way for Dual-Lane Operation

Yamaha’s YRP10 new premium printer features high-speed, high-precision soldering and automated product changeover. While delivering high-speed printing performance with a core cycle time of 6 seconds, it achieved high printing precision of ±6σ: ±16μm Cpk≧2.0. The printer is set for market on August 1. Following its introduction at JISSO PROTEC, Yamaha plans to introduce YRP10 at exhibitions overseas in stages.

Additionally, Yamaha offers the YRM20DL high-speed mounter, which adopts the platform of the YR Series. Also, it markets the YRi-V three-dimensional (3D) hybrid automated optical inspection (AOI) system and other mounting equipment. The introduction of the YRP10 has enabled the construction of a dual-lane line using the YR Series platform.

Enables Production of Large-size Substrates

Dual-lane production improves productivity in a limited space. The demand for it continues increasing especially in the automotive electronics field.

Additionally, YRP10 enables production of large-size substrates of L420×W330mm on a dual lane. This is considered a key feature of the printer. It best suits the production of power modules for industrial equipment and automotive electronics.

Ayako Egashira, Executive Officer, Executive General Manager of Robotics Business Unit at Yamaha, says, “Amid the sluggish market landscape across the board, sales of automotive electronics have been steadily increasing. Also, the production of on-vehicle power modules has been expanding. Going forward, we expect an expansion of demand. Mainly, the YR Series plays an integral role in next-generation manufacturing. We will promote dual-lane 1 STOP SMART SOLUTION and expand sales in Japan and abroad.”

Bolsters Agency Network

In recent years, demand for robotics has been increasing in Southeast Asian countries where the transfer of production from China has been progressing. This January, Yamaha Motor established a new company for robotics in Singapore. The new company is slated to begin operations this July. Mainly, Yamaha aims to enhance maintenance services and to bolster the support system of agencies. Also, the company will cultivate new customers.

Egashira says, “We established the local subsidiary in Singapore with the aim at expanding businesses in Southeast Asian countries and India. We will expand our agency network and strengthen the support system. The subsidiary has a showroom where customers can watch demonstrations. We will propose our products through demonstrations targeting customers in Southeast Asian countries and India where the market continues to expand.”

Moreover, Yamaha also puts strength into cross-selling activities. Specifically, in this system, the company deploys surface mounters and industrial robots in a cross-sectional manner. “Amid the growing needs for automation around the globe, we have been producing steady results,” notes Egashira. Yamaha intends to continue creating synergies from diverse technologies.
