SMK’s New Car Ethernet Connector Has Smallest Width

SMK Corporation has developed the industry’s smallest-width SE-R1 Ethernet connector for automotive devices.

Recently, the automotive industry has seen rapid advancements. Particularly, the evolution of autonomous driving technology and integration of advanced in-car entertainment systems. Moreover, the industry has also seen the expansion of connectivity features and simultaneously, the increasing importance of security enhancements.

Smallest Width in the Industry

For that reason, the need for advanced data processing and integration capabilities has grown significantly. As one of the key technologies in automotive networking, SMK acknowledges automotive Ethernet, characterized by its high-speed and high-capacity communication, has become indispensable.

SMKʼs new automotive Ethernet connector SE-R1 can suit multiple Ethernet lines and connector use within a device. As a result, it achieves the industry’s smallest width of 8.1mm while supporting transmission speeds of 100BASE-T1 (100Mbps) and 1000BASE-T1 (1Gbps).

Furthermore, a full-lock structure with mating locking mechanism ensures robust connectivity, providing automotive-grade durability against the strong vibrations and impacts while driving.

SMK’s SE-R1 automotive Ethernet connector comes with a rating of 50V, 1A and a contact resistance of 25mΩ maximum and an insulation resistance of 100MΩ minimum.

Moreover, it has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C and a differential impedance of 100±5Ω.
