TEL, TATA to Surge India’s Chip Infra in New Deal

Tokyo Electron (TEL) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tata Electronics Private Limited, a leading player in the global electronics manufacturing industry.

Specifically, the two companies will collaborate to accelerate semiconductor equipment infrastructure for India. This as the country is bracing for its first wafer fab, which Tata Electronics are building in Dholera, Gujarat. Accordingly, it is also boosting its assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam.

Propels Bold Vision

Through this partnership, TEL and Tata Electronics will also focus on training Tata Electronics’ workforce on TEL equipment. Moreover, it will also support ongoing improvement and R&D initiatives.

Most importantly, this collaboration will leverage the strengths of both companies to establish a robust semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
Dr. Randhir Thakur, Managing Director & CEO, Tata Electronics, said, “We have a bold vision of becoming a leader in electronics manufacturing. Specifically, by offering integrated solutions across the value chain to our global customers. TEL has a history of working closely with its customers. Thus, its expertise in the semiconductor equipment space will help build a dynamic ecosystem to support the timely execution of bringing up our Fab and advanced packaging factories.”

In addition, Dr. Thakur also expressed their company’s excitement of the customer centricity that TEL will bring in the partnership.

Responds to Needs of MAGIC Market

Meanwhile, Toshiki Kawai, President & CEO of Tokyo Electron, said they take pleasure announcing the partnership with Tata Electronics. In addition, Kawai said, “(This partnership) brings together our combined expertise and resources to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem in India significantly. This strategic collaboration spans both front-end fabrication and back-end packaging technologies. Thus, highlighting our commitment to delivering exceptional support and value to Tata Electronics.”

Moreover, Kawi said, “By leveraging our collective strengths, we aim to accelerate development and drive innovation across multiple technology nodes. Together, (we look forward) to (setting) new benchmarks in the industry. At the same time, fostering a robust and dynamic semiconductor landscape that will benefit all stakeholders.”
TEL has been steadfast in supporting the Indian semiconductor ecosystem. Specifically, both the front-end and back-end product groups will provide resources and technology support to bring advanced TEL products to the Indian market.

TEL will lead this effort with Tata Electronics by offering diversified products for the MAGIC market. This market refers to Metaverse, Autonomous Mobility, Green Energy, IoT & Information, Communications). Thus, TEL will actively explore opportunities to leverage India’s talent to establish an engineering services in India to support its global product development.
