India is set to reinforce its position in the global semiconductor landscape as SEMICON India 2026 convenes industry leaders, policymakers, investors, researchers and technology innovators in New Delhi from September 17 to 19. The fifth edition of the conference and exhibition, themed “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem,” will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre).
Organized jointly by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and SEMI, the conference and exhibition is expected to attract leading stakeholders from across the global semiconductor value chain, including manufacturers, suppliers, policymakers, researchers, investors, start-ups and academics.
The event comes at a pivotal stage in India’s semiconductor development strategy. According to organizers, 12 projects have been approved under the Semicon 1.0 program to help establish a domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The Indian government has also approved Semicon 2.0, the next phase of its semiconductor initiative aimed at accelerating the development of a resilient and globally competitive industry.

Beyond manufacturing, the government continues to support semiconductor research and product development. More than 332 academic institutions and 105 start-ups have received access to advanced design tools, while 24 start-ups have secured support through the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme to enable work on critical semiconductor applications.
“The Government of India has given clear indication towards the importance and significance of the Semiconductor Sector with its progressive policies and extended support,” said S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, said during a recent press conference. He added that three of the 12 semiconductor projects approved under Semicon 1.0 have already commenced commercial production, while Semicon 2.0 further strengthens India’s efforts to build a robust ecosystem.
SEMICON India 2026 is expected to host more than 500 exhibitors covering the full semiconductor and electronics ecosystem, including 243 international companies. The event will feature more than 150 speakers, participation from delegates representing over 40 countries, six country pavilions and 10 state government pavilions across more than 15,000 square metres of exhibition space.
Industry leaders from companies including ASML, Applied Materials, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Lam Research, Tokyo Electron and several other global semiconductor organizations are expected to participate.
The three-day conference will address key themes shaping the future of semiconductors and electronics. Planned sessions will focus on manufacturing technologies, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, supply chains, chemicals and materials, sustainability, product design, innovation, start-ups, talent development and government policies. The program will also include six international country roundtables, workforce development discussions and a dedicated session on women’s empowerment and leadership.
“India’s opportunity is not simply to join the global supply chain, but to become integral to it,” said Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI. “That is the ambition SEMICON India 2026 exists to accelerate.”
As governments and companies worldwide seek resilient semiconductor supply chains, SEMICON India 2026 is poised to showcase India’s growing capabilities across manufacturing, design, innovation and talent development while strengthening international collaboration throughout the semiconductor ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Ashok Chandak, President, SEMI India and of India Electronics Semiconductor Association (IESA), said, “SEMICON India has become the annual convergence point where industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, startups and investors come together, collaborations take shape, partnerships are forged, and the next phase of India’s semiconductor growth is accelerated.” Ashok added, “The introduction of the new ‘Sand to Silicon to Systems’ Value Chain Experience this year demonstrates how India is progressing from building credibility to demonstrating capability, while showcasing the country’s expanding strengths across the entire semiconductor ecosystem.”
