TTM Eyes Highly Automated New Facility in Malaysia

TTM Technologies, Inc. (TTM) will soon open an advanced and highly automated printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia. The new factory is in response to customers’ increasing concerns on supply chain resiliency. Particularly, the need for advanced multi-layer PCB sourcing options in lower cost regions.

Eventually, the total capital spending for the facility will be US$130 million. TTM said this investment will be spread between 2022 through 2025. Moreover, the company said it has already received several long-term customer commitments.

The new facility in Malaysia will assist customers in our commercial markets. Most especially, the networking/telecom, data center computing, medical, industrial, and instrumentation markets. Moreover, the new manufacturing footprint in Malaysia will also provide TTM with an additional growth vector. Hence, attracting existing and new customers looking for cost competitive but reliable PCB manufacturing outside China.

Long-Term Stability of Supply

The facility, located at the Science Park in Penang, will be approximately twenty-seven acres (109,265sq.m). The company expects construction to begin in 2022 with equipment installation in 2023.

Furthermore, it expects initial pilot production will happen in second half of 2023 with volume production commencing in 2024 and gradually ramping to full Phase 1 capacity of about US$180 million revenue in 2025. In addition, the company plans the factory to support 25 percent upside Phase 2 expansion.

“I am excited to announce that TTM will build a new manufacturing facility in Malaysia to offer our commercial customers an alternate lower cost manufacturing region for sourcing advanced PCBs,” said Tom Edman, CEO of TTM.

“Not only will this facility provide a new opportunity for growth, TTM will be regionally more diversified, providing more long-term stability.” Furthermore, Edman added the new facility will improve their position to serve the needs of all its stakeholders.
