SK hynix begins mass production of EUV-based 10nm 8Gb LPDDR4 chips

SK hynix started mass-production of 10nm-class 8Gb LPDDR4 mobile DRAM chips using its 4th generation of 10 nm circuitry technology called “1a”

Dubbed as the chip maker’s first EUV photolithography technology-based DRAM chip, the LPDDR4 chip are to be shipped to mobile phone makers starting from sometime in the second half.

SK Hynix rolls out EUV-patterned 10nm-class LP DDR4

A short for extreme ultra-violet, EUV lithography chip patterning technology has enabled SK hyix to etch out chips of which geometry is as thin as 10nm.

The innovation in the chip processing technology allows SK Hynix to produce 25% more of chips out of silicon wafer than its predecessor technology, as the finer the process technology gets, the smaller the chit size becomes.

The technology advantage does top there. The smaller and thinner chip means for faster data processing speed as well as lower power consumption.

SK Hynix asserted that the 8Gb LPDDR4 consumes 20% less power, compared with its predecessor, while boasting of 4266Mbps in what’s called as the fastest of its kind ever.

SK hynix plans to apply the EUV technology to fabricated a next generation of LPDDR5 DRAM
