Tata Electronics has been making significant steps to accelerate readiness in its semiconductor assembly and test facilities in India. Specifically, in Vemagal, Karnataka and Jagiroad, Assam.
To boost further its efforts, Tata Electronics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ASMPT. Particularly, the two companies vowed to collaborate on establishing semiconductor assembly equipment infrastructure and solutions.
Through this partnership, ASMPT and Tata Electronics will collaborate for workforce training, advancing service engineering infrastructure, and automation. Moreover, they will also cooperate on spare supports and boosting R&D initiatives. Specifically, in the area of wire bond, flip chip, advanced packaging and integrated system packaging. This partnership shall also focus on energy and material efficiency to promote sustainable growth and strengthen the semiconductor supply chain ecosystem.
Dr. Randhir Thakur, Managing Director & CEO, Tata Electronics, said, “We have a bold vision to establish India as a leading electronics manufacturing hub…This partnership will emphasize the development of essential training programs and advanced research and development, while also nurturing a vibrant ecosystem within the country.”
Meanwhile, Robin Ng, Group CEO, ASMPT added, “By leveraging our collective expertise and resources, we are well-positioned to drive significant progress in the semiconductor industry. This collaboration will not only propel technological innovation but also cultivate the talent required for sustained future growth.”
Recently, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for two Tata Electronics facilities. More specifically, a state-of-the-art semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, and a Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Facility in Jagiroad, Assam.
ASMPT’s continuous investment in R&D will help to provide the cost-effective, industry-shaping solutions that achieve higher productivity, greater reliability, and enhanced quality.
Earlier, Tata Electronics also signed an agreement with Tokyo Electron (TEL), a leading player in the global electronics manufacturing industry.
Specifically, the two companies will collaborate to accelerate semiconductor equipment infrastructure for India. This as the country is bracing for its first wafer fab, which Tata Electronics are building in Dholera, Gujarat. Accordingly, it is also boosting its assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam.
Through this partnership, TEL and Tata Electronics will also focus on training Tata Electronics’ workforce on TEL equipment. Moreover, it will also support ongoing improvement and R&D initiatives.
Most importantly, this collaboration will leverage the strengths of both companies to establish a robust semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India.
Also earlier, Tata Electronics’ plan to build a mega semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat is in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC).
The fab construction will begin this year with a total investment of up to INR 91,000 crores (~US$11 billion). Moreover, the planned fab is likely to generate over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs in the region. With this announcement, Tata Electronics enters the global semiconductor industry.
